1902 Winter Storm

On February 21, 1902, a major winter storm hit Germantown and the surrounding area, as seen in this view of the north side of the 100 block of West Tulpehocken Street. The ice and snow resulting from this dangerous storm brought wires down all over the area. Residents found themselves rushing for cover as telephone wires and poles fell under the weight of the snow and ice. Transportation of all kinds ground to a halt all over the city, with power cut off and trees scattered all over the roads. Indeed, it took over a month before daily life in Germantown got back to normal after being hit with this wintry blast.
