Asian Papers Workshop in RittenhouseTown

June 19, 2012

RittenhouseTown Barn and Papermaking Studio

As technology continues to advance, it becomes far too easy to take for granted the simple elegance of paper. Historic RittenhouseTown, site of British North America’s first paper mill, offers the chance to recapture an appreciation for such beauty through a series of workshops dedicated to paper arts.

On Saturday, June 30, join instructor Andrea Snyder as she demonstrates how to stain and paint various plant-based papers as found in Japanese and Thai cultures. Such hand-made papers as tissue, lace, kozo, and unryu work excellently for printmaking or bookmaking, along with art projects and other decorative purposes.

The workshop will be held from 10AM-4PM in RittenhouseTown’s Barn and Papermaking Studio, pictured above. To register for this workshop, please contact Ariel Wilson at 215-438-5711 or information@rittenhousetown.org. The cost is $55 for members and $70 for nonmember. For more information on the workshop series, please visit http://www.rittenhousetown.org/education/paper.html.
