Beekeeping Classes at Awbury Arboretum

January 23, 2012

Ever wanted to learn about beekeeping? Maybe you would like a hive in your backyard? Then sign up for a beginner’s course in Urban Beekeeping at Awbury Arboretum! Youth and adults are welcome.

Green Sanctuary Earth Institute of Pennsylvania is creating a community apiary on the Arboretum grounds. The Arboretum’s public green space is pesticide free, making it an ideal site for three new educational honeybee hives.

In addition to a 4-H Beekeeping Club that has been meeting on Tuesdays since early January, there is a Comprehensive Beginner’s Course for youth and adults. During the 10-week course participants will learn everything you need to get started as a beekeeper, including “swarm control” and “honey harvesting.” The course begins Thursday, February 2, 2012, and costs $120.00. Receive a discount when more than one member of a household enrolls!

To register visit their website or by contacting Anaiis Salles, Green Sanctuary Community Apiary at 267-325-6869; gseipa@gmail.com
