Revolutionary Germantown Festival

September 23, 2011

Still unsure of where you plan to be on October 1st? Visit Historic Germantown for the Revolutionary Germantown Festival! The Festival is known for the battle reenactment at Cliveden, but there is much more in store! From 10AM-4PM  free events will be held at Cliveden and on the grounds of Upsala. Listen to stories told by local griot storyteller Denise Valentine from 10:30 AM – 11:15 AM and 1:45 PM – 2:30 PM in the Servant’s Quarters and tour the historic Chew Mansion between reenactments. Also visit the Cliveden Carriage to view historic maps and prints from Arader Galleries.

Join the sites of Historic Germantown on the Upsala grounds for family friendly activities and performances. Activites will include making colonial toys, pumpkin painting and making your own ink.  At 10:30 see a performance by the Give and Take Jugglers and stick around to see I’ll Take No Tea performed by Tuckers Tales Puppet Theater at 1:30 PM.

For other activities around Historic Germantown, visit Historic RittenhouseTown at 10AM for their 2nd Annual Walk & Wag dog walk and dog exchange reenactment, meet General Howe at the Germantown White House from 12 – 4 PM, and join the Concord School for a Bell Ringing Ceremony at 2 PM. Additionally, the Johnson House, the Germantown Mennonite Meetinghouse and Wyck will be open for tours. Conclude your festivities with Grumblethorpe’s Oktoberfest beginning at 4:30PM!
