“Reflections of Refinement”

September 22, 2011

Stenton’s Annual Decorative Arts Workshop Series presents “Reflections of Refinement” on September 29 from 10AM-1PM, a hands-on workshop exploring glass in early American homes. This workshop will examine how affluent households used imported and domestic glass for dining, lighting and decoration. Objects in the Stenton collection, as well as Philadelphia’s role in the early American glass industry will be discussed.

The discussion will be featuring Mary Cheek Mills. She directs educational programs at the Corning Museum of Glass, oversees their Annual Seminar on Glass, and creates interpretive gallery materials. She also lectures extensively on glass and teaches European and American glass for graduate programs in decorative arts at Sotheby’s Art Institute in New York City, and the Winterthur Museum in Wilmington, DE.

A buffet lunch is included, and an optional tour will follow the workshop. Cost is $45 for non-members, $40 for members and reservations are required.  To register and for additional information call 215.329.7312.
