“Artology” in Freedom’s Backyard!

July 14, 2011

Walking down the 6400 block of Germantown Avenue, you may take a second glance at the front yard of Cliveden . While the greenery is best known as the main grounds of the1777  Battle of Germantown, these next three weeks it will be known for something a little different- “Artology”.

Artology is an art and science summer learning program with emphasis on ecology and environmental justice, sparking students’ curiosity by utilizing Philadelphia’s green areas as a vibrant interactive classroom. A summer camp for grades 4-8 housed at the 2nd Baptist Church of Germantown, these kids show great potential for the future of the arts and sciences.

On the front lawn of Cliveden, “Artologists” have installed brightly colored paintings demonstrating their imaginative interpretations of earth and freedom. A mix of glass, wood and wire media connected to five different stations create a unique exhibit that you don’t want to miss!

Cliveden isn’t the only Historic Germantown site that will turn into an outdoor exhibition of the students’ art this summer. On July 28th Awbury Arboretum is excited to add an outdoor exhibit to it’s expansive 55-acre grounds. Stop by Cliveden anytime in the next three weeks from Thursday to Sunday 12PM- 4 PM to see the exhibit. And anytime July 28th or later, from sunrise to sunset, visit Awbury Arboretum to see the exhibit as well.

For more information about Artology, visit their website . And make sure to visit the exhibitions!
