About
Historic Germantown has all sorts of great stories to tell. All ready for you to unearth. It’s where Philadelphia’s only Revolutionary war battle was fought. Where the first-ever American protest against slavery was written. And where on eof the few remaining houses on the Underground Railroad still stands. It’s a place as relaxed as a friend’s backyard- just minutes from the tourist sites of downtown Philadelphia.
Please visit this site to read the new and old stories about Historic Germantown. From exciting current events to our distinct history, we want you to spend some time in Freedom’s Backyard. This blog is produced by Historic Germantown: Freedom’s Backyard. We are a consortium of fifteen historic attractions in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. Oursites tell the stories of every kind of freedom- religious, racial, political, economic and artistic – and of the everyday people who fought for them, from the 1600s to the present day.
This blog was created with a generous contribution from the Heritage Philadelphia Program of The PEW Center for Arts and Heritage.
